LehCats, which is co-led by reed player Norbert Stachel and flutist-singer Karen Stachel, bring an amazing evening of World Jazz as reflected by the mixture of musical cultures that they experience in the San Francisco Bay area. The Stachels, who are joined by Matt Clark on piano, Akira Tana on drums, and Peter Barshay on acoustic bass, perform original melodies that reflect the influences of many cultures, particularly from Latin and South America with a taste of the Mideast and Africa.
Norbert Stachel, a saxophonist and multi woodwind instrumentalist, is widely recognized for being a unique soloist and also for his strong ensemble contributions in all kinds of musical genres. Norbert has recorded, toured, and performed with Aerosmith, Tower of Power, Eddie Money, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Prince, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz,Diana Ross, Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Raitt, Cold Blood, Sheila E, Quincy Jones, D’Angelo, Freddie Hubbard, Roy Hargrove, Joe Henderson, Dizzy Gillespie, & countless others.
Karen Stachel, a forceful flutist and composer who challenges classification while affirming her roots in straight-ahead jazz. Karen consistently plays in orchestras, chamber groups, and musical theatre. She has performed with New Amsterdam Symphony, Broadway Bach Orchestra, San Francisco Concerto Orchestra, Marin Civic Light Opera Orchestra, and the Herperian Chamber Orchestra.
