The Home of Bay Area Jazz & Arts

We are a homegrown, organic, non-profit dedicated to promoting jazz as an art form.

The Sound Room is aptly named. The focus is on the sound or the music. Unlike clubs where the performance may be peripheral to the experience, at the Sound Room the performance is the experience.  We are an all-ages listening room. We exist to present great music and promote jazz as an art form.

Our ticket proceeds pay for the band and sound equipment. Our food & drink revenue pays the rent and utilities. We volunteer our time to make this program run. We serve beer, wine and a great collection of inventive non-alcoholic drinks.

The Sound Room was selected by DownBeat Magazine as 1 of the best places to hear jazz in the World 4 years in a row!

The Sound Room was also featured in the New York Times 36 hours in Oakland and in the Wall Street Journal One of a Kind Experiences in Oakland. We have been named the Best Live Music Venue in the Bay Area for 2023. We are actively looking for financial support for our ongoing music programs. Donate to the cause at Keep Jazz Alive at the Sound Room.

We are an intimate jazz venue. We recommend advance purchase of tickets to ensure seating.

We are located at 3022 Broadway, Oakland - directly across from Sprouts.

Where are you?

We are located at 3022 Broadway, Oakland, directly across from Sprouts. We are equidistant between the 19th Street and MacArthur BART stations.

Where can I park?

Free parking is available on the street. There are also supervised parking lots at Summit Medical Center and Kaiser Medical Center – both of which are 2 blocks away – that are available for a fee. Please do not leave valuables or belongings in your vehicle.

How do I get tickets?

Go to the event listings on this website. At the end of each listing there is is a statement Tickets at …. Click on the blue underlined text - this is a hotlink that will take you directly to the ticket purchase site.

You may also purchase tickets at The Sound Room. Pick up seats for a future event when you are there seeing a show. Or drop in on an evening when we have a show after 8P and we can help you get tickets/seats.

How do I buy tickets on Eventbrite?

Our shows may be General Admission or Reserved Seating. For general admission, purchase the number of tickets you need. When you arrive, you will select your own seat. We encourage you to arrive early to get the best seats.

Reserved seats are selected when you purchase your tickets. There are different tiers of seating that are color coded on the map. If a seat is gray or black - it is not available.

Green for VIP R stage - you are literally on the Right side of the stage; this is perfect if you love to watch the pianist, want a close up view of Flamenco dancers, or just want to feel part of the action.

Blue for Front row seating

Yellow for second row seating.

Red for elevated seats on the perimeter. These are bar stools with a back and table.

General admission allows us to seat more people, turn over the room quicker when we have more than 1 event per day, and allows us to reorganize the room when we have to accommodate changing band configurations.

Do I have to print out my ticket?

No. We have your name on our list.

Do I have to buy tickets in advance?

Advance purchase is highly recommended. We are a 100 seat venue and frequently sell out. If tickets are sold out online, there will not be seats at the door.

Are you all ages?

Yes! Kids are welcome.

Are food & drink available?

Absolutely! We are a non-profit organization. Your ticket purchase pays the band and maintains our instruments and sound system. Food and beverage purchases pay the rent, utilities, and costs of food and drink. Please come hungry and thirsty as this is how we continue to operate.

Our kitchen menu options are delicious. Our chefs are professional cooks who have worked in tech companies, well known restaurants, and as celebrity chefs. You will want to come hungry – the food is great! The menu is listed on the food link on this site.

We offer a nice selection of beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Most of the wines on our list are made by winemakers who are supporters of our program. Whenever possible, we select local, sustainable/organic foods and beverages. We have 4 beers on tap and a nice selection of bottled beers. We also have imaginative house-made non-alcoholic drinks along with some staples for your enjoyment.  Corkage is available at $25.
