StorySlam Oakland is Oakland's longest-running true storytelling show, where people tell short and true stories from their lives. Or just listen and laugh.
HOW THE SHOW WORKS:
Anybody can put their name in the hat for a chance to tell their true, personal story on the theme.
Storytellers will be mostly picked at random from the names in the hat. We usually have time for 8 to 10 open-mic storytellers. We also present one or two Featured Storytellers from our wonderful storytelling community. These are people who have won awards at various shows, or just are known to us for their great storytelling style and charisma. The Featured Storytellers tell true, personal stories, but a little longer than the open-mic'ers.
This month the theme is Aggression and the featured storyteller is MEAN DAVE. "Mean Dave" has made fans laugh, cry and cringe. He is sharp and honest, and people who know him say, "such a sweet person." He is a regular in the Bay Area comedy scene. He's performed at Cobb’s Comedy Club, the Punch Line in SF and Sacramento, Laughs Unlimited, Alameda Comedy Club, SF Sketchfest and other comedy festivals of note. Most of Dave’s life has been littered with the kind of utter disappointment and flat-out betrayal that only a sarcastic, cynical sense of humor can remedy.
