Based in San Francisco, with roots in Havana, LA, Mexico City & London, Sondango presents superbly crafted songs with deep grooves. Formerly known as Ritmojito, playing salsa, samba, bolero, cumbia, ska and more, Sondango is a five piece ensemble led by Sandra Aran and Richard Nelson Hall.
Vocals: Sandra Aran. After studying classical piano and composition at the National University of Mexico, Sandra completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Vocal Performance at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where she also organized and directed Latin Culture Week 2000 & 2001. In various jazz, Latin & rock ensembles she has opened for blues legend B.B. King and jazz great George Benson, toured southern Mexico, performed all over both East & West coast USA. Sandra & Richard performed together in Latin dance band Ritmojito for thirteen years.
Piano: Richard Nelson Hall. Richard is a graduate of University of Nottingham and as a London-based performer appeared on national TV and had a publishing contract with Warner Bros. In San Francisco he resided as jazz artist at A. Sabella’s and Club 36, opened for Chaka Khan at Russian River Jazz Festival and was Musical Director, Pianist & Conductor for the Plush Room’s “Dirty Little Secret” show and the “The Rat Pack is Back” show at the Post Street & Marines Memorial Theaters. He has toured with similar shows all over the US, Canada and the Middle East. More recent performances include Disneyland, Las Vegas, Palm Springs and Los Angeles with the Alpha Rhythm Kings, and with Jonathan Poretz at Club 54 in NYC.
