18 year old, trumpeter Skylar Tang has become a prominent figure in the Bay Area jazz scene and has garnered national recognition for her trumpet playing and composing. She is an award-winning student at Juilliard Conservatory and Columbia University who has performed at Carnegie Hall, SFJAZZ, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Monterey Jazz Fest, Davies Symphony Hall, Royal Albert Hall and more.
She has toured the US, Europe, and South Africa with Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra Jazz Band, which featured guest artists Sean Jones, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Jazzmeia Horn. As the winner of the 2022 Essentially Ellington’s Student Composition/Arranging Contest, she conducted and performed her original composition "Kaleidoscope" with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Inspired by the profound history of black American music, Skylar strives to create honest, innovative, and relevant music that speaks to all aspects of the human condition.
