On tour from Zurich, jazz musician Nicole Johänntgen is a saxophonist, composer and workshop leader. Johänntgen has recorded 26 albums to date, and has received awards internationally and nationally including the International Jazz Contest Monaco, the JTI Trier Jazz Award, the Seven Virtual Jazz Club Contest, the European Yamaha Saxophone Contest, the Young Soloist Contest in Fribourg, the Saarland Art Prize 2022 and the Lichtenburg Prize 2023.

She is now on a CD release tour with her band in support of their new album “Labyrinth”. Johänntgen‘s new pieces are powerful with an experimental, sometimes melancholic flair of the Motown era of the 70s.

“Labyrinth” is jazz as Nicole Johänntgen understands it. It is the art of resolving contradictions. Everything sounds as if it had been created somewhere outside, spontaneously at a session. But there is much more behind it. The unconventional instrumentation of saxophone, tuba and percussion offers unexpected new possibilities.
