Mads Tolling is a two-time Grammy Award-Winning Violinist. Mads was born and raised in Denmark, where he started out busking on the streets of Copenhagen with his sister. He moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, where he was discovered by legendary jazz-violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. This led him further west and to join bassist Stanley Clarke’s band and Turtle Island Quartet. Mads now leads his own groups, and he is a member of Bob Weir’s Wolf Bros/Pack project.
This evening Mads is joined by pianist John R. Burr. The two will include music from their brand-new album, “Ramblin’” with songs ranging all the way from Toto to John McLaughlin and Chick Corea with a few originals sprinkled in. The special guest this evening is one of the Bay Area’s finest jazz vocalists, Tiffany Austin, who Mads collaborated with for the first time at Yoshi’s a few years back. Tiffany has released two acclaimed albums, “Unbroken” and “Nothing but Soul,” and she recently appeared on NPR’s “Fresh Air.”
