Ray Obiedo’s Latin Jazz Project is comprised of some of the Bay Area’s finest contemporary jazz musicians. With its heavy influence of Brazilian and Caribbean rhythms, a traditional West Coast Latin Jazz sound is always at the core of the ensemble. Ray’s group was formed in 2010 to further explore his love of Latin music. His compositions draw inspiration from various genres, including Contemporary Jazz, Afro Cuban, Soca as well as other musical genres. The Latin Jazz Ensemble works with a wonderfully rich array of textures and colors, melding together all of it’s musical elements for a delightfully distinct Bay Area flavor.
Ray Obiedo is best known for his work with organist Johnny "Hammond" Smith, ECM Records trombonist Julian Priester, jazz superstar Herbie Hancock, and Latin jazz great Pete Escovedo. Join Obiedo as he takes the stage with his group for a night of funky, percussive guitar!
Obiedo's solo compositions have been played by Tower of Power, Sheila E, Marion Meadows, steel pan great Andy Narell, jazz guitarist Bruce Forman and The Pete Escovedo Orchestra. Parts of his work have appeared on film soundtracks, most notably Michael Caine's “A Shock to the System” and Richard Gere's “Internal Affairs."
